The Mexican culture embraces the everyday reality of death with respect and humor. They decorate skulls with bright colors and the names of their departed. They decorate altars in their homes with marigolds, photos, candles, traditional foods and alcohol. In the most traditional areas, they spend time at the cemetery at the graves of their loved ones, making music and honoring their dead with prayers and parties. They have many names for El Muerto (death) - La Flaca (the skinny one), La Huesada (the bony one), and La Calaca (the skeleton).
